Gina Schaefer left her corporate job to open a hardware store in Logan Circle and it is now THE place to go for hardware and services in DC. They rent tools, provide advice about repairs, and can order products not available in their store (thanks to their membership to the ACE Hardware cooperative). Since the demand for hardware was so high, Gina opened a store in Glover Park and Federal Hill too!
If you aren't sure what you need, or don't feel like driving to Home Depot, this is the place to go. The staff are super-friendly and knowledgable and willing to help you find what you need.
That being said, there is certainly less selection than Home Depot and the prices are higher. They don't seem to have a lot of unique/unusual items, either.
This is the trade-off with a neighborhood place. If you know what you need and want the best price, and don't mind dealing with the monumental pain of just BEING in a Home Depot, well, that's what it's there for. Logan Hardware never checked my ID to buy spray paint, I can tell you that.
They staff always seems very helpful and I have always found what I needed.

This place has great customer service. I went in and needed help with some plumbing stuff to fix a leaky faucet. Even though the sale was going to tally up to a mere 69 cents for a washer, the sales associate was incredibly helpful, spending about 30 minutes with me to make sure I got the right thing. Awesome!
